Hornsby Art Prize

Kel is busy putting together some artwork for the Hornsby Art Prize. Kel has also been invited to exhibit some of her work down in Melbourne at the brunswick Art Gallery in Melbourne in Dec. Both Kel and i will be attending and it should be awesome! To show some of Kel's versatility and how she never stops working -i managed to snap some illustrations from her sketch book- the sketches are small and are the size of an A5 page, and she carries it with you her on the train to work and is always doodling when not designing tops or sewing.

Kel did have time to break from her heavy schedule and celebrate her birthday with a BBQ down at Lane Cove National Park with some friends. Here Kel is showing us her new found driving skill the indicating to the left....

Kel and her magnificent weekend...

Kel had the biggest trade day since prettylittle thing began. We opted to setup at crows nest markets on the saturday. The sun was shining, but forecasts predicted gale force winds for later that day. Well the wind tore up most of the day, 30km winds are nothing to be sneezed at and so we packed up early and headed home.

Not all is lost, kel did however manage to secure a spot on sunday for the crows nest street market, this involved the whole street being blocked off, with up to 40,000 visitors.

So we set off again and set up in our designated spot, kel and I thought we were in the worst spot to start off. As the day wore on, the spot would prove to be a winner for kel.

Photobucket
We were set up under a awning, there wasn't a stall next to us on either side, which gave kels customer space to move around and look thru the singlets.

according to other stall holders in the busiest sections, people couldnt see or get to their products because of the crowding, and heat.

what turned out to be a fail on sat, sundays trade tripled what kel would of made. Kel was busy from the time I left her at 930 till 5.
Well done kel!

kel, will be taking next weekend off and will be back on the markets in a fortnight.

If you would like a custom design, have a look at our post from april on the new designs. Here is just a sneek peek of designs gone by.

October festi...

As summer approaches, so does the traffic for the markets. We expect the markets will be haven for new born babies, tourists and domestic travelers heading to the beach.

Last Sat at Manly was a little quiet, all stall holders reported a quiet day; the overcast weather didn't help, but then i guess you can't get all sunny days....ahhhh....

Although the day was quiet, it wasn't un eventful, i watched a couple of rangers patrol a stall commenting on bags and bottles of water on the ground, and that it may be a hazard to a passerby??? hmmm, perhaps they think the water is going to leap out and burn them or the bags of clothes will suddnely devour them as they walk past...weirdo rangers!

I also managed to tear a hole in my 6 mth shorts; which prompted a new pair of shorts to be bought. At ($80) i was not impressed, to top the day off it was windy and a little cold so i bought a cheap $10 AUSTRALIA cardy from some dodgy shop...and well the arms were short ! i was warm and that was the main thing.

Heres me in my "gumbo" $10 top- Check out Kel's response when i told her about my dire problem with my shorts...and the fail top....

Kel, in her wisdon did mange to sello-tape my ass so i could at least protect the children's from my ass falling out and allow me to purchase expensive shorts that i really didn't need...( i should of bought a towel).

Back to reality, Kel is looking to be at a couple of big markets- the Glebe street fair and the Narrabeen markets in December- so keep your eye balls peeled for the market dates and we will let you all know when we are in the market.

see you soon

No mo shall hide thee...

Sat 25th- Manly Markets- One former home and away actor/ detective on the Underbelly Series- Golden Mile- Mr Dieter Brummer, graced Kel's stall and purchased 2 rocking baby singlets, the blue motorcar and blue tartan elephant. Mr. Brummer was with his little boy and wife and was sporting sunnies and a cap.

According to channel 9 he hasn't scored any acting gigs since Underbelly so he is back doing his real job as a window technician- a high rise window cleaner.

It was only when he said, "cheers champ" i recognised the voice and smile, and taking the sunnies off did help identify him. I told kel who i just sold the singlets too, and WOW! i didn't realise he was on home and away let alone Kel having a secret crush....(as well as that dude with the scar on his lip...Callum lazy eye, i think his name is...)

Anyway, it was a great day for us, good to see some home grown talent buying Kel's homemade singlets. Awesome!

SP out!

Sept 19th 2010- Sydney

Sunday Fun Run

Pretty Little thing's- Kelly Hotchin raised over $1000 for her charities run for Pakistan and the Camobodia Childrens fund for Plan org. Highlighting the lack of media awareness of the recent floods in Pakistan and need for support for the displaced families in Pakistan, Kel put into motion support online via facebook and thru her work Click business cards.

Plan org only managed to organise a fundraising channel for Pakistan on the request from Kelly, and we are all very proud of Kel for raising awareness of Pakistan's plight and thank all who supported her charities from work and friends. Congratulations Kelly well done!

You can still donate via the plan.org.au site.

Be sure to keep an eye for future fundraising events.

Manly market dramas

It's 9 am, we have had some great coffee for salt motion, a great new cafe/surf photo galleryThe new gallery & cafe situated in the manly corso.

The coffee is affordable and tastes sweet; and if you have the sweet tooth why not try the tasty b bread and afghan biscuits.

Word on the street however is some shopkeeper is trying to shut down the manly markets...these markets have been operating in manly for 11 years. Some councillor has also weighed into the subject mentioning that the stall holders are liken to carnie folk....read the manly daily for more information on this topic.

The news on this is currently posted in the manly news, so head there to show support for kel and the other stall holders, who are offering hand made quality products to the public. Everyone wins, the community receives access to a rich diversity of products they can choose, and that's what shopping is all about choice and freedom.

Mosman and Manly Food & Wine festival.

Mosman markets Saturday- thank god the rain stopped and the sky opened up to some beautiful periods of sunshine. Being the first time at Mosman Markets we had just setup towards the back of the market. Mosman layout is a bit of a dog leg it starts at the tip of military road and then heads back into the school grounds.

A host of arts and crafts are on show, from reading cushions, ironing board covers to leather dog collars and homemade biscotti. The week leading up to the markets, had a major downpour and coming into winter, foot traffic was a little slow going. The market is very similar to St. Ives with the more mature market "carnie folk" nonetheless it was good to be out in the sun. We had visits from friends Luke Carney from malutours- came down to visit us, cheers mate!

Sunday 6th June
Manly food and wine festival.
Held annually each year, the manly food wine festival probably didn't have the turn out, as previous years- the windy weather proving a little difficult for the general public and stall holders alike. Team Kel and Di were in charge of the stall with surprise visit from "squishy" aka lily-kelly's little wee neice and parents Darren and Darien. Kel's workmate Sarah popped in for a visit as did Kate and Damien. Well done for those who made it down to Manly. Kel will be back at Manly next Saturday - lets hope the weather is super sunny Saturday! see you there.

Beautifully Homemade....

Choosing a gift for a wedding can sometimes be easy- some couples opt for the wedding registry- sweet as! other wedding gifts can be simple as a personal gift such as an envelope of cash or extreme cases a pony!

Kel' recently had one of her good friends- Natalie and Issru get married and for a wedding gift Kel. design, hand made beautiful pillows that were tailored to each of their personalities.

I can tell you now, it took Kel ages to put the pillow set together and you can see the detail that went it to the design and fabric needed to create the set. The size of the pillow would be close to 60x 60cm square-decent sized pillows for the lounge or bedroom.

At the bottom are some Asymmetric designed earrings, Kel has limited stock as most of her focus is on the baby range, but these designs are pretty cool and look great on any ear!

Winter Chills....

Kel and i will be back at the Manly Farmers markets this Saturday. Then it's Kel's debut at Mosman Markets Sat. 5th June.

Kel is busily preparing new stock as winter is starting to roll in.

Here is a snapshot go Kel-s current collection- the singlets can be worn over top existing tees- for boys it is great look for the aspiring wrestler.

Remember Sat. 5th June Mosman Markets- 8am kick off, hope to see you all there.
