Nappy Cake?

Kel's sister is due for a baby in the next month and was asked to create a "Nappy Cake". For the those who are as lost as i am; to what a nappy cake is- it is a gift a decorative piece that has baby items placed all over it in the shape of a cake.

The cake is NOT meant to be eaten, no icing is required just some baby essitientals like baby powder, nappies, things an expectant mother would need.
The cake itself is constructed of mainly nappies- disposable nappies can be used (as it is cheaper, not eco- friendly), but seems to hold the shape of the cake better.
Toys and colour ribbons can be easily added, with the centerpiece being a bottle of baby powder. This gives the cake its shape and makes it easier for you to create the outer layers. Expect to pay retail for $200-250 depending on the detail required. It is a novelty item and seems to rather popular in Australia for baby showers.

St. Ives Markets

Sunday, the start of another market. Here is kel looking anxious as we get ready to set off for the St. Ives Markets. The nerves are easily laid to rest once kel gets into Market mode- i tend to leave her to set up, i just add the muscle in transporting her gear and get her coffee and banana bread. NB/ best banana bread is from the crows nest markets.
The Crowd is made of up people who like arts and crafts and home-wares.
It's not my favourite market as the traffic flow into the market is pretty slow; the people that attend this market are generally locals, its off the motorway and tends to bring in mostly the grand mas and grand dads. It s a great day for the family, as the markets offer jumpy castles, typical fair food, stalss that offer timberwares to patterned cushions and even pony rides.Compared to Manly yesterday, today was much more laid back and very cruisey.

Today was so cruisey, kel was busily sewing a gift for a friend ( cannot mention the gift just in case they read this blog.)

Kel set up shop inside one of the pavilions-the Douglas pickering pavilion -which was located need the "food alley".
Interesting to note, of all the food stalls there, not one offered sandwiches and the only freshly squeezed juice was lemonade. Maybe i was blind, but surely a market needs to offer some healthy alternatives than the "fat" food stalls? Or is it because of the lack of good food operators actually out there? hmmm i am sure some entrepreneur will fill this gap soon.
We had a steady steam of customers, the wind tunnel created by the pavilion ,which made our day a little bearable. The singlet winners for today were the lovebirds and skulls-total polar opposites and very popular with the late thirty parents. We had one parent tell us their child would love the skulls as it would match nicely with his Mohawk. If you saw your child playing with a child wearing a skulls singlet an Mohawk in a playground, you would be thinking- naughty kid or wish my kid looked that awesome!

Today was an average day, not as good as Manly, the crowds at St. Ives were more arts and crafts people than awesome handmade fashion fans. We are on a break till Feb. Kel heads off to India and me to Brisbane for a month.

We will be posting new designs in the coming weeks before we head off, so will keep you posted on the new designs.

Have a merry crimbo!

over and out!

Last Manly Markets for 2009

A beautiful sunny 24 Degrees today; a great day for a Market. The most popular singlet today was the motobike for boys and the lovebirds for the girls. Manly Markets offer a great location with table and umbrella package great for newbies wanting to try their hand at market stalls.
Manly is typically busy during Christmas so getting a booking can be hard- it pays to do a couple of markets during the winter to give you the best chance in securing a Christmas position.
This was the last manly market till Kel gets back from India in Jan. So it was good to be nice and busy today with some singlets running out of stock.
We will be at the St. Ives markets tomorrow from 9am till 3pm- if you are coming by car there is a $5 car park fee. Otherwise email us for any orders we will be signing off for chirstmas on the 23rd. and back on deck in 2010 on the 27 Jan.
Click here for the latest design, bear in mind, we took these photos as they were being finished, so ignore the loose cotton on the singlets, they get nuked at the end.
See you in the soup!

Crows Nest Markets

Crows nest Markets were a little windy, and we were still stuck in winter clothes. Luckily some good coffee and toasted banana bread eased the winter chill. The Day managed some sunshine with our Cup Cake baby singlets and strawberries were a instant hit, with many customers are starting to pre- purchase baby singlets for the lead up to summer.
Here is a snapshot of Kel in our lounge room, which is converted at night into "the factory".
With temperatures to reach up to 39c over summer- expect singlets and breathable short sleeve tops to be popular over the coming weeks, and kel will be working hard in the factory to get those unique designs out ready for market day.
The markets provide us with a good understanding of what mothers and people like; so interestingly enough we have placed a vote function on our sidebar so we can gauge which designs you like most and next week we will be running a survey on what designs you would like to see. So when you get a chance help us to vote which design you love best.
over and out!
